NYFW: Nicole Miller Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Show (+ Video)

We saw a lot of prints this fashion week, but Nicole Miller’s we’re amongst my favorite. The collection had a lot of energy and amped up some of the classic silhouettes Nicole Miller is known for — airy silk organza tops, stretch skinny pants and fitted dresses. Also her leather pieces we’re exceptional. I’m not big on wearing leather but their was a vest, jacket and skirt that made me eat those words three time over. It had a very rocker meets feminine mix that really worked. I loved this collection!

{LOVED this leather jacket, especially the versatility with the zippers}

{The skirt, the shorts, the dress, the jacket… the leather was a hit!}

NYFW: Rebecca Minkoff Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Show

Wearable sportswear with a hippy chic theme in a variety of prints, colors and fabrications from embroidery to summer tweeds and fringed hems hit the runway at Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring/Summer 2013 show. Minkoff took inspiration from the iconic 60s and 70s American photographer Slim Aarons when designing her collection.

Elongated pockets, interesting geometric cuts and patterns galore made their mark as the models walked down the runway to the beats of Tennis and DJ Cassidy. The performers took to each side of the stage for a

NYFW: DEGEN Spring/Summer 2013 Presentation

“The REVOLUTION will be CRAFTIVISED” was the slogan of Lindsay Degen’s namesake DEGEN Spring/Summer presentation and it could not be more on point. Lindsay’s passion for knitting is evident and her funky and creative sense of style is the basis for all her work.

NYFW: Reem Acra Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Show (+Video)

After seeing so many sportswear shows, to say I was ready for some award show red carpet worthy gowns is an understatement. Reem Acra brought it! Finding an unusual mix of inspiration including extracting the bold, abstract energy of Aaron Young’s famous series of motorcycle inspired works. The collection is powerful, with exceptional details that brings a modern femininity to evening wear. The tailoring is executed through laser cuts, vivid colors and uniquely juxtaposed elements. Makeup by the legendary, Pat McGrath, hair by Rutger Van der Heide.

Here’s my video from the shows finale:

Side note: You’ll never guess who was sitting near me in the front row… Paula Abdul! And because I was behind her walking out, fans kept asking if I’d take a picture with their phone and then someone asked if I wanted one — and you know what… why not?

Talk about being in the right place at the right time…

NYFW: Kuning Spring/Summer 2013 Presentation

I’m new to the label Kuning so I didn’t know what to expect when attending their Spring/Summer 2013 presentation. And after experiencing it, I’m happy to report it was easily one of the cutest and most creative presentations of the season (and I’m taking before we even start talking about the clothes). Major props the producers, this show was done so well. The invitation came in the form of a silver pocket watch (it was all very Alice and Wonderland of them), the layout of the models we’re styled with anything from vintage cages to picnic table sets – there was even a real dog (as in the most well behaved hound on the planet). And all of this was done in the Mezzanine of the Empire Hotel with grass (okay it was AstroTurf) overlaid over the carpet, but still! And don’t even get me started on the mini alcoholic cupcakes that the models would hand out when you entered their station – it was an incredibly interactive show. The highlight being every 15 minutes the models would break into a routine dance that not only helped show the movement of the clothing but added such energy and fun to the atmosphere.

Okay, now I’ll get to the clothes… vintage picnic chic. The men had a bit of a casual Newsies meets Gatsby theme with white button down shirts and matching suspenders, while the women sported a white bottoms (well white everything) and a minimalistic range of yellow and red tops paired with waffle below the knee chiffon skirts.

NYFW: Candela Spring/Summer 2013 Presentation

There was an indescribable innocence to the Spring/Summer 2012 Candela collection that made you want to lounge in the countryside — preferably in the south of France sipping champagne with one hand and holding a parasol in the other. Each design had an incredible softness that was completely inchanting and delicately feminine.

I expect several knock offs from Anthropologie next year.

NYFW: Falguni and Shane Peacock Spring/Summer 2013 Collection

Pushing the envelope right into the future, Falguni and Shane Peacock grabbed the crowd’s attention from the moment the static control-tower audio said lift off. A galactic experience began with planet-centric prints pixelated on sheer overlays, some in dramatic form grazing the runway others more playful hitting mini territory. Intricate embellishments on necklines and bodices added glamour to the fantasy, but my favorite might have been the space age sunnies that were dazzlingly decked out. True these out of this world garments danced the line of being costume-like, but for the right red carpet diva, I’m thinking Billboard Music Awards, a FSP number with all it’s sci-fi shimmer will evoke the right kind of looks.

NYFW: PC Backstage at Karen Walker Spring 2013 Show with Clinique’s Jenna Menard

A highly anticipated show in the fashion week schedule, Karen Walker, was surrounded with even more hype when we got word our creative friends at Clinique would be on the beauty 1’s and 2’s. Clinique’s Global Colour Artist Jenna Menard developed a make-up look to compliment Walker’s collection that was based on “space-age optimism of the 1950’s”. Staying true to Clinique’s aesthetic this look highlights classic beauty, but with a futuristic flair. The overall cosmetic styling was a “moon-kissed” effect coming from smudged eyes, soft skin and a vibrant iridescence on the lips.

If you are loving how Jenna pumped things up when it comes to the pout, she created that look by applying layers of Clinique’s, Long Last Lipstick in shade Watermelon, and Colour Surge Eye Shadow Duo in Seashell Pink/Fawn Satin and Pink Slate. To add dimension and create a matte finish of your own, lightly dust a mixture of light pink and lavender eye shadow on top of the intense lip colour.

NYFW: PC Backstage + Front for the The Blonds s/s 2013 Runway Show with Amanda Lepore, Paris Hilton and Adam Lambert

Makeup by MAC, Hair by MorrocanOil, Nails by CND

There really is NO fashion show like The Blonds. It’s the show I look forward to the most every season — the energy, the outfits, the trannys… it’s so much fun! And this season the queen of this scene, Amanda Lepore was there!!!

There are 3 parts to the show — the backstage, the audience, and the runway show. Yes, all shows have all three but what sets this show apart is each of these elements could be an event in and of themselves.

The theme fore this years collection: “Psycho Beach Party”. Can you hear the JAWS theme song in your head? (You will soon.)

BACKSTAGE:

So, starting with backstage, Phillipe (The Blonds ultra sexy designer and creator) is prancing around getting beautified for he/her big moment — she’s also a model or rather the star of the show.

CND’s Kristina Estabrooks created the nails which consisted of an elaborate array of detailed designs including Shark Bites, skinny dip blue, and red caviar over CND Colour in Blackjack!

Seriously though, how ridic are the 3-D black shark nails???

MAC Cosmetics did the makeup focusing on the on the eyes . Working an exaggerated black liner below the lower lashes coupled with mega fake lashes on top for some extra drama.

BCBG Max Azria Spring Summer 2013 Collection

-PC Fashion Corespondent, Tiffany Piñero of Tiffany Piñero Style

Nothing sparks the fire of New York Fashion Week like a major show to kick things off. A brand that is synonymous with majorBCBG Max Azria, brought the jolt you usually rely on from your extra shot of espresso first thing in the morning. Building on a subdued palette of neutral shades including nudes, clay, black, white and “color” coming from tones of coral, the vitality came from the mix of fabrics and touches of leather. Crepe, chiffon and lace graced many of the looks giving them a classic BCBG feel. However, it was the slightly aggressive pieces of textured fabrics that were formed in bondage-esq creations on top of many of the garments that gave an exciting and exotic feeling of newness. The danger in the edgy harnesses countered the romance of the flowing hemlines and soft fabric choices. The collection is a balance of ornate trends and glamorously wearable pieces, which is what we have come to love from BCBG.
