Dr.Jart+ hosted its first US pop-up shop in NYC on Thursday, Nov. 13 to celebrate the brands 10-year anniversary. Industry insiders were invited to shop Dr.Jart+’s bestselling products while receiving free personalized skincare consultations and exploring the brands rich history in an exhibition format.

Over the past 10 years, Dr.Jart+ has grown from a small, local brand, into an international company with a cult following. The exhibition illuminates the complete story of Dr.Jart+, from the city where it was born and the founders who created it (Dermatologist Dr. SungJae Jung and President JinWook Lee), to the best-selling products and skincare science within the most safe and effective formulas available.

Confessions of a Cystic Acne Survivor

Everyone wants that flawless, luminous, glowing skin, but for me it’s more than a desire; it’s an obsession.  Since nature’s cruel joke of puberty, I was cursed with the onset of hereditary cystic acne.  I had what looked like puss-filled boils all over my face, neck and body – and I mean all over.  These painful lumps were the cause of ridicule and childish torture for three years of my life. I would beg my parents to home-school me as to avoid having to face another day of my adolescent peers. Even though they made me go to school everyday, my loving parents spent hundreds of dollars on any product that claimed to help acne, but to no avail.  I found out I was allergic to benzoyl peroxide, the active ingredient in most strong acne medications, including ProActive, and that salicylic acid wasn’t strong enough for my breed of acne.  Finally, one of my many dermatologists came up with a solution, a new drug on the market called Acutane.  Not yet approved by the FDA, this drug claimed to prevent breakouts for up to 10 years.  Acutane is now known for some of its severe side effects, such as:

It’s been a very inspiring couple of days. As some of you know I started the Share Your Beauty program last February through the non-profit, Family-to-Family, giving brands, editors, bloggers and beauty hoarders the opportunity to donate their unopened beauty products to homeless, and battered women’s shelters and those in need.

After hosting several drives our friends at LeSportsac offered their headquarters in Times Square as a drop off location in NYC so we could accept products year round. With the holidays approaching we decided for November to partner with Good Shepherd Services, a youth and family development agency whose programs include foster care. So we sent out an email to our awesome list of bloggers and brands and I’m so excited to announce that we were able to fill 130 LeSportsac bags for the full occupancy of teens (85 bags for the girls, 45 for the boys) in the Family Foster Care program in the Bronx (and had a whole lot of product to spare to send off to their staff and volunteers).

An Inside Peak the Hard Candy Factory (Plus What’s NEW for Fall)

I had quite a treat a few weeks ago when Hard Candy invited me out to NuWorld Beauty in New Jersey to see where all the magic happens. And by magic I mean where all the formulations come together and the actual makeup is made and packaged. It was like an episode of I Love Lucy, except instead of chocolate, makeup was coming down the conveyer belt (and real professionals were handling it). It’s simply incredible to see what goes on behind the scenes and how many impressive machines and people it takes to bring you a perfectly pressed compact or evenly poured lipstick. If there’s two thing I look for in hair products, it’s that they do not contain sodium laurel sulfate and second that they are a part of a regimen.
