The only thing hotter then the heat wave of July is a bold lips we’ve been rocking all summer. Keep your look simple (it’s too hot for heavy makeup) and stand out with a playful pout! Here are 10 new(ish) shades to brighten up, exfoliate, stain, add shine, and protect your lips all summer long.1. The Lip Scrub By Sara Happ – Sparkling Pink Grapefruit ($24): Great sugar exfoliant to keep lips smooth and soft. Sometimes you just gotta get out the grime and this certainly does the job. Leaves your lips feeling smooth and your taste buds will thank you (it’s yummy). Use at night and follow with a moisturizer. Additional flavors available.
2 & 9. L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lipgloss – 2. Pink Rebellion #189, 9. Endless Summer #190 ($9.99): I really enjoy the dual functionality of it being a lip glosses + stains! Some are more concentrated then others (and a softer pigment then what you see in the packaging). However they leave lips hydrated and enhance your natural lip shade with a smooth not to sticky gloss. Easy to apply and long lasting, it’s basically a very light stain and gloss. Also great to apply over similar colored lip sticks to enhance the finish and lock in the color.
3 & 16. Make Up Forever Aqua Rouge, Waterproof Liquid Lip Color – 3. #20 Baby Pink, 8. #16 Fuschia ($24): Adding to their ever expanding line of Aqua Rouge, which are magnificent dual duty, long, LONG, lasting, high shine/pigmented lip stain and lip gloss duos, we now have two new shades, Baby Pink and Fuschia which we just can’t get enough of. Baby Pink is a soft pink, while the Fuschia is bold with extreme shine and pigment (it’s gorgeous!). Both offer extreme dense pigment with a matte finish on one side and clear lip gloss shine on the other. What you see on the packaging is what you get, it’s just that rich!
4. Cover Girl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm – Scarlet Twist #250 ($6.99): Great lip balm for the price. Goes on smooth and leave lips moisturized. The Color goes on much lighter then seen on the packaging (it is after all a balm) but adds a nice enhancement to your natural lips. And a soft, smooth way to make your lips look naturally refreshed. It’s also a great shade to apply on top of lip products that need some extra hydration.
5. Flower Luxury Lip color by Drew Barrymore, exclusively available at Walmart – Coral Floret LS14 ($6.98): Great shade made from emollient oils that help to improve shine. If you’re on the market for a more orange/red lip tone, look no further. It offers a nice, creamy rich application with strong pigment and hold by lipstick standards.
6. Tarte Aqualillies – Timeless ($26): Amazing bright coral shade. Love this color it’s just enough parts bright and neon to stand out without being weird or difficult for the average (or slightly adventurous) woman to wear. Plus we love that all Tarte products are cruelty free. Wrapped some earthy, retro packaging, this lipstick is a blend of emollient-rich butters (mango, avocado, and shea) with Amazonian clay encapsulated within to give it’s vivid, long-wearing color. While I didn’t find it as hydrating as all the hype (although my lips are on the dryer side), I wouldn’t consider the formula drying either (especially if you exfoliate with The Lip Scrub (plus lip balm) the night before. It has a nice semi matte finish but still has enough moisture so lips don’t look dehydrated.
7. COVERGIRL Blast Flipstick Lipcolor – Tease ($8.99): Dual sided lipsticks (ones a bold red/magenta mix, the other a shimmery nude shade). Great together or apart (honestly it’s the red/magenta shade that has me hooked!). The color is gorgeous, it goes on smooth and creamy with great shine and lasts all day (pending no beverages make contact with my lips). It’s an absolute staple in my makeup case.
8. Mark. Glossworks Longwear Lip Gloss – Tempest 075-917 ($12): A lip gloss with SPF 15 built right in! Help keep lips protected from drying UVA and UVB rays and get glossy brilliant shine. Easy to apply and great for a little color and protection during the day.
11. Mark. Make it Rich Lip Color Crayon – Hot Sauce ($11): Rich and full color that doesn’t bleed. It’s incredibly luxurious and remnant in packaging and quality of NARS (but at a fraction of the price). I love this deep red color for a night out on the town. Also a great transition shade into fall.
