Getting to see my Dad and little brother (who celebrates his birthday on Monday) was such a special treat this week when I was in town for a press trip in Boston. We did a pre-Father’s Day celebration on the water since I won’t be with them this weekend. They help inspire my guides since my dad is impossible to shop for and has coined the term “It’s not that I don’t like it, I just don’t appreciate it”. Like most of us as we get older and are trying to cut out the clutter gifts we can’t use or have a million of get old. It’s my goal every season is to pick things he can actually appreciate — his only rule in my attempts are that ties are not allowed. And fortunately I have my brother Andrew to run my ideas by as well as some stylish dads and mens bloggers I seek for approval. Top picks include…
Pretty much anything Herschel is a safe bet, this Sutton Mid Duffel is great as a weekender, beach bag or duffle for going to the gym. It’s also great for camping since it’s waterproof and also has a side pocket for convenience. Socks and underwear can be cliche so if you’re headed in that direction find something hip and modern, like Related Garments which does a set of matching briefs, ankle socks and long socks per pack. They have amazing patterns and prints that makes for a fun and easy gift!
I was recently at a Timex event and both myself and Jamal from @StyleSocietyGuy reached for the Timex Weekender Fairfield Rose Gold Watch. It’s unisex and so stylish! The stock photo on the site doesn’t do it justice but see it on HIM and ME on the respective links. I’m also going to shout out Havaianas, who offers really fun patters for men, since James asks for a pair every season. We travel a lot and even for throwing on to walk the dog or what not, these are great to have around the house.
Fragrance is always classic pick and who doesn’t love John Varvatos Classic fragrance — I may or may not have an autographed one for a special man in my life. I’m also pretty obsessed with everything John Varvatos, just waiting for the day he does women’s clothing. Which of course I almost asked him last week when he was hosting a Q&A with my favorite rock photographer, Mick Rock, and then completely chickened out. Also Dior Sauvage if you’re looking for something new, was a huge winner at the Fragrance Foundation Awards and worth checking out. If a cologne is too personal, consider a candle. You’re not human if you don’t love Diptyque — if nothing more than to have around your home office for Instagram pictures. Their Feu de Bois Scented Candle smells like a sexy man. It’s smoky and woody and just has hot dad written all over it. This is the gift the wife/partner gives the husband along with a weekend stay somewhere romantic — the candle also comes in travel size so you can bring it with.
For a guy that knows how to take care of his skin, or needs some help there’s something for everyone! Remington Head to Toe Men’s Grooming Kit ($34.99) is an affordable, top rated lithium powered shave and body trimmer that features four attachment heads to literally groom him from head to toe. For the luxe dad and shaving experience, The Art of Shaving has lovely father’s day sets out right now. You can’t go wrong with anything on their site but the Lavender Shaving Kit features their must-have shave products in full size and The Perfect Shave Travel Kit, has everything you need when you hit the road for a clean shave bundled in a water-resistant travel bag. Lastly, the Clarisonic Alpha Fit, which will probably be in every mens guide forever more. The sonic cleansing device specifically designed to deeply cleanse mens skin by loosening dirt and oil, removing impurities from pores and prepping skin for a closer smoother shave. Some other ideas I have on my radar are Bose‘s new headphone that launched this month. I tried them briefly at the launch event and want every style. So did every man in that room. Now available is the new QuietComfort 35 headphones. We all know that Bose has cornered the market for noise canceling headphones with their beloved QuietComfort 25 model. Now welcome 35, the wireless version with added features you can read all about HERE. They also launched a new Soundsport Wireless Headphones ($149.95), which are amazing for working out. It’s a wireless headphone designed for a comfortable fit that’s sweat and weather resistant and uses Bluetooth and NFC pairing to connect your device wirelessly.
Lastly, I just discovered hammacher.com, the site isn’t glamorous but I was pretty blown away by their awesome assortment of electronics and gifts.
