Summer is the perfect time to experiment with new beauty looks and Target has challenged me to create a bold, monodramatic look with products from their beauty aisle. Since I’m always encouraging all of you to try new things, I figured I would follow suit and go outside my comfort zone in hopes to inspire all of you to do the same.I’ve been trying to find a dark lipstick shade I can pull off for a while and they’ve all seemed a little off. So for today’s look I took a page out of my mom’s book, (she’s the queen of using brown eyeliners as lip liners) and kicked the look up a notch to create a sultry monodramatic look.

Using all e.l.f Studio products, I took their new eyeliner, Lock On Gel Liner in shade Want it Brown and colored in my lips (especially the edges) and then topped the centers of my lip with Pout Perfector in shade Glow. This lip gloss is really unique in how it plays with light. For a more dimensional pearl effect it can be dabbed instead of blended for an ultra reflected glow. And the shimmery pink pearl over the brown makes for a pretty metallic mauve effect. monogramatic makeup

For the eyes I started with the Prism Eyeshadow palette (which is AMAZING!). They go on silky smooth with a velvety finish and have the most beautiful shimmer. This is everything you need to create a sultry, seductive eye. (Note: I used brushes from the e.l.f Studio Brush Set, specifically the Eyeshadow “C” Brush and Contour Brush to create this look). To start the look, I blended the 4th and 5th eyeshadow shades from the Prism palette together on the eyelid and then followed with the 6th shade in my crease line. I then used the first shade on my brow bone to highlight. From there I added the black Cream Eyeliner across my eyelid and under my water line. I then smoothed the black liner underneath my bottom lash line with the brown Lock On Gel Liner I had previously used on my lips to soften the black and add a brown highlight. I finished off the eyes with e.l.f. 3-in-1 Mascara in Very Black.

I then lightly highlighted the cheekbones using a mix of the 1st and 2nd shade from the Prism Eyeshadow palette.

So there you have it! I went super 90s for my lip look, which I have a feeling by fall will be all the rage (or at least that’s what I tell myself). Not only did I experiment with new shades but also in using products beyond what they are supposed to be used for. Don’t be afraid to use an eyeshadow as a blush or highlighter or an eyeliner on your lips. I’m also a huge fan of mixing products; everything from foundations to get my perfect shade, to lipsticks — I’m always mixing my pinks and reds together. So get out there and have fun!
