What an epic weekend! It’s not everyday you get to go to Coachella with a fashion icon who just so happens to be someone you’ve admired since you were a teenager. As the costume designer behind the looks for the cast of Sex and the City, Devil Wears Prada, The Other Woman and now the new show, Younger, starring Hilary Duff, who better to check out the fashion scene with than with Patricia Field? And as DSW’s official festival corespondent I was taking notes all weekend and here’s the style recap.
Converse are in! I picked up a really cool printed pair of high-tops from DSW before coming out to Coachella. It was the best decision I made; not only were they one of the it shoes of the festival (for men and women alike), but with the amount of sand on the walk to enter the festival, high-tops were so necessary.
Boots – from ankle boots, opened toe styles, to more classic slouchy mid-calve style, they were a big hit. Partially due to the sand situation and also because while it’s blazing hot during the day it gets chilly in Palm Springs in the evening. Plus styles like the Crown Vintage Lauria Wesern Bootie ($74.95), my friend Karina rocked in the photo below are also so versatile since they can be matched with pants. shorts and dresses alike.
Gladiator sandals – Of course we saw all kinds of strappy and thong style sandals, however to my surprise the gladiator sandals (of all lengths) were one of the most dominating styles to hit the festival.
Platform wedge sandals – Heels are next to impossible to rock at Coachella unless it’s connected to a boot or a platform style. We saw some funky printed platforms, especially in the party scene. I contributed to the look by rocking the Diba Wedge Sandals (in both the crochet and aztec print, $39.95).
Flower crowns continued to dominate while fringe took a bit of a back seat this season. It was all about short shorts (high-waisted and regular), mini-backpacks, vibrant prints, white knit dresses, accessories, 60s pin-up girl looks, checkered/flannel prints (from shorts to tops and jackets). And most of all it was about showing off your personal style and creativity. There we’re so many great looks that didn’t necessarily fall into a trend but just worked.
Thank you to everyone that followed along, I hope you enjoyed my pictures!
