Renowned Lower East Side, boutique salon Fox & Jane opens it’s doors in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. This is the company’s fourth salon in NYC (their fifth resides in San Diego, CA). With my strands in dire need of rescuing — I love my ombre but it’s been killing my ends — I took a stroll uptown to meet with Lorean Cairnes, Fox & Jane’s co-founder and creative director for some much needed hair TLC.
First thing you should know about Lorean is she’s incredibly creative and inspiring to be around. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere she’s created made me feel immediately at home while we talked about my hair. She listened to my hair goals (I want, long, long, long hair!) and saw me fawning over some of the staffs color — and although I wasn’t ready to commit she offered a 5-shower rinse out greenish/blue tip on my ends so I could test drive the shade. I got a perfect trim (next time we’re adding in a few layers) and I’m so used to seeing blonde at the end of my hair, it’s so exciting to see some of my natural shade mixed in with the green/blue. My hair is so much healthier and manageable since the deep conditioner she added as well.
The full-service salon, which specializes in color uses Balayage and for hair products they are exclusive to AG, a Vancouver-bases specialty product line that focuses on creating top shelf products that are formulated without harsh chemicals or bad-for-you ingredients. As for my at home regimen, Cairns recommends staying away from any products with sulfates in them, especially for color treated hair.
