Fashion Week is a swirling maelstrom of events, and even when you know the ropes it’s easy to get swept up in the madness. But for Hervé Léger Spring 2-14 show, it couldn’t have been simpler to find my way to the Theater at Lincoln Center: I just followed the crowds of women swathed in the brand’s signature bandage dresses.
I love tracing the evolution of an iconic look, and the Spring 2014 Hervé Léger by Max Azria collection takes Léger’s body-conscious piece in a fresh and modern direction. The already sexy dress grew even more seductive with added structure from leather corset belts, which created a heart-stoppingly hourglass silhouette.
The elegant color palette of black, white, and gray flowed along the more unstructured tops and voluminous skirts in the collection, enriched by touches of soft blues and neutral hues.
Deft touches of zipper detailing complemented the tough-glam moto jackets.
Geometric beading played off the architectural structure of everything from swimwear to a pair of exquisitely cut shorts.
With such a high-impact collection, hair and makeup were deliberately natural. The models rocked swept-back hair and neutral lips, with a hit of drama from a soft smoky eye. Minimalist accessories—simple structured clutches and strappy heels—kept the looks perfectly balanced between edge and elegance.
If ever a celeb was made to wear the bandage dress, it’s Nicki Minaj. She made her entrance in a slinky silver-embellished black number with metallic studs, with a leather harness and fur trim at the shoulders for good measure. She looked ready to belt out a tune—or strut her stuff on the runway.
