Happy Fourth of July! In honor of this Independence Day, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate some coveted brands made right here in the U S of A. According to our friends at Save The Garment Center (whose sole mission is to Promote, Preserve, and Save NYC as the Fashion Capital of the World), in 1960, 95% of all clothing sold in America was made in America. Now that number is closer to 5%.
So as you pack up those bags and head to the beach this weekend, make sure to include some of our favorite finds made right on our home turf!
Oscar de la Renta – Just another reason to bow down to this fashion legend.
American Apparel – The name doesn’t lie. From comfort hoodies to flattering leggings, more then a few of their basics are in our wardrobe.
Jason Wu – Far before Michelle Obama made this designer a household name by picking his design as the inaugural gown (twice), we sat 2nd row at his first fashion show at Bryant Park. Now we’re lucky to get standing. And with good reason, his collections are something to be admired.
J Brand – Best denim ever. Made in the best country ever. (Their assort ready-to-wear collection is also high on our list.)
Anna Sui – Who would have guessed? She’s dripping in international love, but her designs are made in America!
Rag & Bone – We’re obsessed with the casual cool and great fit of this knock out label (Have you seen Lara’s latest style post?); although a little confused over if they are 100% made in America — the internet seems to think so however a few of our shirts say otherwise. Still we’re gonna give them a shout out for all the US states (and garments) they manufacture here.
Hanky Panky – Known for its uber comfortable and ultra flattering fit, Hanky Panky’s are a must have for every women’s lingerie wardrobe. Their assortment of bright, bold colors ensures your entire summer wardrobe is as sexy as it is playful.
Jude Connally – Nothing says summer chic like the light-hearted prints featured on Jude Connally’s soft silhouettes. These easy statement pieces are a must have for a weekend trip as they don’t wrinkle, pack super easy and flatter all shapes.
Sutter’s Mill Specialties – Some of our favorite keepsakes are those personalized with our name, or better yet, our blog’s name! Sutter’s Mill Specialties boasts quality products in vibrant colors ranging from picture frames to our favorite Pretty Connected mugs (which are laser engraved, not printed). These customizable mementos are a great gift idea for someone who has everything.
Additional brands we love that are made in the America: Nicole Miller, The Row, Lela Rose, Thom Browne, Rodarte, Billy Reid, Nanette Lepore, and Clover Canyon.
