Eczema-prone individuals and itchy skin victims take note! Curel wants to help you fight the battle with the launch of their newly reformulated Itch Defense Lotion for Dry, Itchy Skin ($7.99/13 fl oz).
I met with members of the Curel team, as well as dermatologist Dr. Sapna Westley, and Julie Block, a representative from the National Eczema Association to learn more about the formula; but before I can even get into the product, I just need to take a moment to say how effected I was by their presentation. I don’t have eczema, but I remember being a kid and having dry, itchy skin on the inside of my thighs. It was so agonizing and would keep me up at night so I can sympathize. I was fortunate enough to grow out of it, but so many are not as lucky. I watch this video on some real-life patients talking about how this condition has impacted their life and I kept thinking about what it would be like to be at a job interview or just suddenly out in public and feeling like your skin was on fire. What these kids (and adults) and their families go through is so much. My heart completely sank.
However, on a more optimistic note, I was delighted to learn about the National Eczema Association (NEA). They are an incredible resource for anyone with Eczema and their families and are committed to improving the health and quality of life by providing information, support, public awareness and education for both patients and medical professionals. They additionally established the NEA Seal of Acceptance program, which is awarded to products that adhere to a strict criteria and are tested to be safe and effective for those with eczema and sensitive skin.
Curel’s new Itch Defense Lotion for Dry, Itchy Skin was granted the NEA seal, and works to rebalance four essential components of healthy skin:
- Ceramides: Restores skin’s barrier function and regulates skin’s ability to hold moisture.
- pH Levels: Balances skin pH back to a healthy level
- Moisture Levels: Contains humectants to boost moisturization and emollients to leave skin feeling protected
- Cellular Turnover: Minimizes dry, flaky skin and smoothes skin surface balancing the dry skin cycle.
It’s fragrance free, safe for all ages, and is formulated with panthenol, olive oil, shea butter to help reduce irritation, redness, flare-ups and itching. So while I don’t have eczema and can’t claim myself a success story, I have been using it on my elbows and dry patches and it’s really helped. The lotion is incredibly rich and hydrating, yet somehow miraculously lightweight. It absorbed instantly into my skin without being greasy or tacky.
