This $20 SUSTAINABILITY IS SEXY Tee Makes a Difference

I partnered with Custom Ink, which is an amazing site that lets you design t-shirts and apparel and host a fundraiser to donate all of the proceeds to the charity of your choice. With their help I created this “SUSTAINABILITY IS SEXY” Tee. It’s $20 and I set all of the proceeds to go to Family-to-Family, a grassroots nonprofit 501(c)(3) hunger and poverty relief organization dedicated to providing food, personal hygiene products, kids literacy programs and other basic life essentials to American families struggling with the challenges of poverty.

Custom Ink is an easy website/tool to help raise funds and awareness for a cause, and get your message out. My Message: SUSTAINABILITY IS SEXY. My shirt is available in bunch of different styles, I’m wearing the unisex mens style on the site in a size XS, it’s super soft and American Apparel, but we have tanks and other styles available as well.

When I wear my shirt, I’m talking to my friends, but I’m screaming it to brands who everyday send me products buried in so much packaging that is trash. I can’t tell you how sad it makes me when garbage day comes and my trash bins are overflowing with wrappings from these packages. I get it, I’m blessed to receive so many mailers and I appreciate it but somewhere in my 10-years of blogging sending an absurd amount of landfill became trendy and it needs to stop. Listen, every blogger loves a present, bribe me with a gift, I won’t say no, but trash doesn’t count. If I can’t reuse it, I don’t want it. It’s not my personality to publicly shame brands so I’ll avoid naming names but a lot of you brands and PR agencies need to wake up because more and more editors, influencers and industry pros are speaking out, and I don’t know anyone that appreciates it. I would also like to shout out Beach House PR for their announcement that they will only be doing 100% recycled, eco-friendly mailers and boxes voice of excess packaging. Thank you for caring.

Share Your Beauty Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary in NYC

lesportsac share your beauty eventIt’s been an exciting week! This month we celebrate the 1 year anniversary of my Share Your Beauty program! As some of you know, last year I joined forces with the poverty relief non-profit organization Family-to-Family and together we created Share Your Beauty; the first beauty donation program, where we organize drives and events to collect beauty and hygiene products and deliver them to shelters and teen centers in NYC and the tri-state area.

The Latest from #ShareYourBeauty + Your Chance to win over $2,000 in Beauty Products!

It’s been a very inspiring couple of days. As some of you know I started the Share Your Beauty program last February through the non-profit, Family-to-Family, giving brands, editors, bloggers and beauty hoarders the opportunity to donate their unopened beauty products to homeless, and battered women’s shelters and those in need.

This is what being buried under 145 LeSportsac bags filled with beauty products looks like

After hosting several drives our friends at LeSportsac offered their headquarters in Times Square as a drop off location in NYC so we could accept products year round. With the holidays approaching we decided for November to partner with Good Shepherd Services, a youth and family development agency whose programs include foster care. So we sent out an email to our awesome list of bloggers and brands and I’m so excited to announce that we were able to fill 130 LeSportsac bags for the full occupancy of teens (85 bags for the girls, 45 for the boys) in the Family Foster Care program in the Bronx (and had a whole lot of product to spare to send off to their staff and volunteers).

To give you some idea on how amazing the beauty community is, that with just one email we received over 2,500 beauty products (which is like over $30k+ worth of goods!) and I’d like to take a moment to personally thank Henri Bendel, L’Occitane, Aveeno, bareMinerals, Buxom, Knock Out nail polish, Redken, Pureology, DNA PR, Ashley Kalinske of amfAR, Elizabeth Kennedy of Stadiumred, Amanda Brown/AmandBrownMusic.com, Amber Katz/rouge18.com, Vicky Sullivan/Aspiringsocialite.com, Kristin Booker/fashionstylebeauty.com, JM/OpinionNothing.com, Lauren Dimet Waters/secondcitystyle.com, Megan Zeitz/tfdiaries.com, Pamela Pekerman/pamelapekerman.com, Candice Sabatini/beautynewsnyc.com, my In His Clothes and Pretty Connected team and of course LeSportsac for being my amazing partners in crime, err good!

HELP US SPREAD THE WORD! And you could win…

We had so much left over product (that’s after we filled the 145 bags, plus two huge boxes of product to the staff!) we decided to fill one of LeSportsac’s Extra Large Weekender bags with over $2,000 worth of beauty products and are giving it away to one lucky winner who helps us spread the word! Share Your Beauty Partners with LeSportsac – Now you can drop off your beauty products in NYC!

beauty products donated to share your beauty

As some of you know I’ve been working on creating a more sustainable beauty industry and have been partnering with brands, editors and bloggers since February to get their un-used/unopened beauty products donated to homeless and battered women’s shelters.

Beauty bloggers/editors get so many products they can’t give it away fast enough. And did you know that when brands discontinue a product or change the packaging they usually destroy any leftover products in their warehouse? Think of all those people in need that they could go to! And up until now there wasn’t a viable solution which I’m so happy to be on the forefront of creating!

A few months back I partnered with the non-profit organization, Family-to-Family to develop a Beauty donation program called “Share Your Beauty“, which allows anyone to donate any unopened beauty products to those in need.

Now in only our 4th month in existence, I’m so excited to announce not only have we donated over 12,000 products and as of today we’re officially partnering with LeSportsac!!!! Anyone in NYC is welcome to drop off to the LeSportsac corporate office  located in Times Square where we will be doing monthly donations to various shelters in the tristate area.

We’re accepting unopened beauty products (hair, skincare, body products, makeup, nail polish and fragrance) — please do not include anything too complicated like self tanners or fake eyelashes (use your judgement).

Prior to drop off or messengering products, please email us at [email protected] so we can have your name added to the security list and notify LeSportsac how much bags/boxes or products they can expect. Please bring a valid ID when dropping off. Unless you prefer to go through the messengering center which does not require registration.

Making a Difference! PC Launches Share your Beauty Program

Last night was probably one of the most exceptional events I’ve ever had the please of putting on. For new years my #1 resolution was to give back and be apart of a more sustainable industry and last night it all came full circle. In February, I received an email from the non-profit, Family-to-Family about wanted to drop off beauty products to homeless shelters for Valentine’s Day. Instead of doing a post about it, I offered to run a drive out of NYC and work with local beauty bloggers and brands to do a collection.

Happy Valentine’s Day to us! Our Makeup Drive was a Success

boxes of makeup You realize in life, you make time for the things that are important, even where there’s no time. Generally when it comes to New York Fashion Week  there’s no getting ahold of me — literally it’s the 2 week span my friends and family know not to call or text because I’m completely unavailable. Well right before the designers hit the runway, I was forwarded an email from the non-profit, Family-to-Family, which was working on a special drive in honor of Valentine’s Day, collecting unused cosmetics to help distribute them to women in homeless shelters on the 14th.
