Celebrate National Dog Day with the Westin Mission Hills

charlie-king-car

I have to say National Dog Day holds a special sentiment now that I have Charlie in my life. And it’s all thanks to the Westin Mission Hills!! It hard to believe we’ve only been together for 4th months — I literally can’t remember my world without him.

As some of you know Charlie was part of the Westin’s pet adoption program through Animal Samaritans, a no-kill animal shelter that lets one dog live in the lobby of the hotel until they get adopted.

Charlie was dog #42 until we took him home. Now the hotel is celebrating their goal of getting 50 dogs adopted with a “Yappy Hour” they are hosting in honor of National Dog Day. Being hosted today, August 26th from 4-6pm, there will be a pooch portrait booth and a free dog toy for every canine in attendance.

The program is a year old and already to have found so many dogs loving homes, this is quite a milestone! I hope more hotels take note since we weren’t even on the market for a dog when Charlie came into our lives. Now we’re virtually inseparable. We even gave Charlie a middle name of Westin (and his dad’s last name), making him Charlie Westin King since the hotel is such a major part of his story.

Unfortunately, we could not be there for the reunion with the Westin Mission Hills since Charlie is on his first camping trip in Maine — we did however stop off at the Westin in Portland for a few days on our way to Acadia National Park to toast them.

You can follow Charlie’s adventure on his instagram page: @pompomcharlie

Thank you to the Westin Mission Hills and Animal Samaritans for all that they do for rescues! And for bringing Charlie into our lives!

Meet Charlie

charlie1

I have a big announcement, today we’ve added a new member to our family, Charlie Westin King! He’s a 10 year old Pomeranian that was found in a kill shelter before being rescued by Animal Samaritans — who I like to call Charlie’s Angels. And yes, he already has a profile on Instagram @PomPomCharlie (you know I had to!).

Instead of heading to LA in between both weekends of Coachella, James and I decided to stay in Palm Springs at The Westin Mission Hills to explore all of the amazing sites in the area before heading into weekend two of the music festival.  The Westin has a partnership with Animal Samaritans and had Charlie living in their lobby allowing guests to play with him and take him for walks. I walked him everyday.

It can be really hard for older dogs to get adopted and I just fell so in love with him so after some nudging, James agreed that we needed to give this little guy a home! He came with the name Charlie so we didn’t want to change it but added Westin after the property for his middle name, and then gave him James’ last name since Charlie Westin King sounds better then Charlie Westin Eurdolian.

The Westin is an incredible property, set on a golf course with multiple restaurants and pools. Our favorite part was all of the activities they offered and the amount of animals on the property. Walking the grounds they have giant bunnies, tortoises, black and white swans, ducks, iguanas and a bee tour! They have a whole bee keeping program where they make the honey used on the property. And as some of you know bees are crucial to our survival and have been on the decline since 2006. On Sundays they even offer bee tours, which of course we had to do!

We owe a huge debt of gratitude for this property for all that they do with Animal Samaritans and for bringing Charlie into our lives!

Happy National World Bee Day + a Tour Burt’s Bees HQ in North Carolina

To say I’ve had an awesome few weeks with Burt’s Bees would be an understatement. They are so aligned with everything I’ve been working on with my @insteadofmovement, and encouraging brands to be more sustainable and they share my love and appreciation of bees. We did some fun activations in Palm Springs during Coachella and recently in New York with my water bottle chain promoting hydration from the inside and out (their new Hydrating Stick is amazing on planes or when you need a hit of moisture and is so cooling!). Earlier this month I got to visit their headquarters in Durham, North Carolina and see where all the magic happens.

Welcome to Burt’s Bee’s! Tour inside Burt’s house and the offices!

Today, the UN celebrates the first ever World Bee Day (May 20th) to raise awareness of these tiny helpers and the role they play in ending hunger and achieving sustainable development. And in honor of this day I wanted to give you a tour of the office, Burt’s original cabin in Maine (which they moved onto the property), interior and all, and for you to meet their bees!

2017 Highlights: Oh the Places We’ve Gone… (and people we’ve met)

2017 was a pretty incredible year for me. I got to be in an Olay campaign with my mom, was profiled in Vanity Fair, danced with the Rockettes, judged Glamour’s Beauty Awards, was on a billboard in Times Square, and meet so many of my idols! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. If I’m being honest the whole year was a bit of a blur. Which is why every New Years Eve, I take an hour to go through my Instagram feed, blog posts and just reflect on all the incredible things that have happened. So here we go, my top moments of 2017 (in no particular order)!

  1. Being profiled in Vanity Fair. I mean… #goals.

2. Seeing my face on a billboard in Times Square! I hosted a Facebook Live with Sophia Bush for Sunglass Hut that was streamed on a billboard in Times Square. It was incredible.

3. Getting this Owl necklace from Iris Apfel’s personal jewelry collection. She hosted a trunk show of her one of a kind vintage pieces she’s thrifted throughout the years and I walked away with this incredible piece.

4. Being in Greece with Patricia Field and Debi Mazar, two women I’ve literally admired my whole life. From cruising around Mykonos in an ATV, to epic lunches overlooking the Mediterranean, this vacation was the definition of paradise.

5. Getting to judge Glamour’s Beauty Awards for the 2nd year in a row.

6. Being in an Olay campaign with my mom and being apart of the 28-day clinical study for the famed Regenerist and Total Effects moisturizer.

Also being in Health Magazine for the campaign!

7. Got to workout with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall and learn their moves thanks to Gillette Venus!

8. Getting to hug Joe Biden!

9. Walking in my first fashion show for Livari during fashion week!

Road trip from Atlanta to Nashville (and where to stop along the way)

My mom has a Toyota Prius, and when she first bought it a few years ago she said it was like driving a magic carpet, it was so smooth and quiet. It wasn’t until this road trip driving a 2017 Toyota Prius Three, that I fully understood this comment. For the eclipse we decided to fly into Atlanta and drive to Nashville (about a 4 hour drive), making a stop in Chattanooga, Tenessee, the half way point, to see the legendary Ruby Falls. Not only is the engine so quiet, but the car is also insanely fuel efficient, which I really appreciated considering all the miles we were about to drive. It was less than a half a tank of gas to do the trip one way!

ATLANTA, Georgia

Downtown

We started in downtown Atlanta, which wasn’t very exciting, except we did stumble on a fabulous Mexican restaurant called Alma Cocina, that’s worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Little Five Points

What we were told this would be the Williamsburg, BK of Atlanta and it did not disappoint. The artsy area filled with funky bars and restaurants, coffee shops, juice bars, tattoo shops and vintage stores was a fun area to walk around, and so inexpensive. Ragorama is a huge second hand store, where I thrifted 3 designer belts (Gucci, D&G, and Ferragamo) for $24 – $33 each.

Atlantic Station

Less grungy then Little Five Points, Atlantic Station is a pretty part of town and great area to eat, shop, walk around and catch a movie.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Well, today was pretty much the best. James and I have been planning this Nashville trip for almost a year. Ever since he got wind of the Eclipse and that Nashville would be one of the best viewing spots. We’re big SPG members so we booked at the Westin Nashville, it’s a newer property downtown and absolutely gorgeous. Grandious lobby, with really cool music design elements like picks embedded in the counters and belt buckles on the headboards of the rooms. The hotel has two bars (we frequented both), one in the lobby the other on the roof, which is two levels and features a pool with incredible views of the city. It was the perfect spot to watch the eclipse from and the hotel threw a really fun viewing party complete with a specialty eclipse cocktails and glasses.

Geared for More with Adidas Golf

Growing up I used to love going to the driving range with my dad. It was one of my most favorite father-daughter activities. Granted I was terrible and no idea the difference between a driver and a putter but I had decent form and if I played my cards right (or had some blind luck) the stars would align and I’d hit a perfectly fluid shot. And it was the best feeling ever! Since then I’ve stayed at a number of exceptional properties that offer golfing but always felt intimidated hitting the course without my dad. Or maybe it was because I’m an adult now and being the competitive athlete that I am, I wasn’t ready to completely bomb at something.

After this week in Palm Springs and some motivation from Adidas Golf, I could not have been more pumped! I’ve been a longtime Adidas fan and I’m so excited to be partnering with them this summer to take lessons and test out their gear. Their Geared for More campaign is all about bringing your A-game to the course and preparing for victory. Between that and visiting the beautiful Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort (located in Rancho Mirage, right outside of Palm Springs) I was ready to bury my intimidated attitude and really take advantage of the property — and at the very least blend in.

I mean, how cute is this outfit? I’m channeling my inner pro golfer that vacations at PGA properties and spending more time in a golf cart than actual car. And speaking of the clothes, the fabric in this Golf Double Stripe Short Sleeve Polo is magic. I’ve been melting in the sun and not a single sweat mark! It’s moisture-wicking makes me look so dry and breathes so well! Also the top is a UPF50, which means it has a protection from the sun (think SPF 50 level), which is so necessary on the course. The Essentials 5 Shorts Women’s Shorts are super lightweight and move comfortably. Topped off with the Climacross Boost Women’s Golf Shoes, which are hands down my favorite, such a perfect hybrid between a golf shoe and running sneaker. Excellent grip combined with side mesh makes it breathable and comfortable to wear. It also features their Torsion System to stabilize feet while walking and swinging. I felt very secure in my stance when hitting and love the look of them!

Made in LA

It’s so great to be back in LA! I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I’ve been back. Usually, I say in Santa Monica but I’ve had a blast exploring some of the other parts of LA with my amazing tour guide and host, Kristi from Currently Crushing. Her partner is an incredible photographer and I’ve had a blast shooting around the city from scenic hike areas to the classic “Made in LA” mural I’ve seen all over Instagram.

Outfit details: Jessture NY white button down dress (similar) Forever21 Belt (on sale!), MCM vintage bag (similar), Brian Atwood Platform Wedges, Sunday Somewhere sunglasses.

2016 Recap: Oh the Places We’ve Gone… (and people we met!)

2016-look-back

2016 is going to be hard to top! I’ve had so many incredible features over the years but being in Real Simple and People StyleWatch were big moments for me! I’ve also added to my sizable list of makeup heroes spending time with the founders of Colourpop, GlamGlow, Kat Von D, Laura Geller, ByTerry, NudeStix, It Cosmetics… and the amount of celebrities from Lionel Richie, Kerry Washington, and Courtney Love that I’ve been able to meed. And so much travel!!!! I have so much to be grateful for.  This was also the year I rescued Charlie and getting him healthy and being able to give him so much love is probably my biggest achievement. 2017 was too epic not to document a photo gallery and timeline of my best moments!
