My Coachella Beauty Checklist on Real Simple!

coachella-beauty-must-haves-5As far as I’m concerned, the only person that can pack light and still look beyond on point everyday for Coachella, is Patricia Field. I could definitely take a cue from her organizational skills from our trip together last year. At least I’ve picked up a few tricks of my own when it comes to packing my makeup — I finally found the winning combination between LeSportsac travel pouches and this Caboodle traincase.

Backstage at Hedwig on Broadway with POPSUGAR and Knock Out Cosmetics

hedwig dressing room
It’s not every day you get to sit in Neil, Andrew and now Michael’s dressing room at Hedwig!!!

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is one of the hottest tickets on Broadway right now. The Tony Award winning show, opened with Neil Patrick Harris as Hedwig, then Andrew Rannells, and now, Michael C. Hall, is taking over the role for the next 3 months. And with those elaborate wigs, and fabulous glitter red lips and blue eyeshadow, it’s a dream for all us beauty lovers. I’m so privileged to be friends and partners with the man behind the hair and makeup (for ahem – both the original movie and play), Mike Potter. And our nail polish brand, Knock Out is what you see on the actors and we did an exclusive Hedwig collaboration featuring the iconic shades that you see from the show. The shades include: Sugar (clear glitter), Midnight (blue glitter), Hedwig (red glitter) and Bombshell (matte yellow), and they are what you see on Hedwig the playbill’s and posters all over NYC.

Win the KOxHedwig Nail Polish Collection As Seen on Neil Patrick Harris {Giveaway}

Hedwig nail polish

My goodness, I feel like this has been a non-stop exciting week of announcements! As some of you know I recently became a spokesperson and partner in Knock Out nail polish. They launched over 5 years ago and were the first brand to do matte nail polish and having I was obsessed with them from the start. About 3 years ago I met one of the founders, and we have since became good friends. So getting to be apart of the brand this year was a big honor for me. As is the big announcement that Knock Out is the exclusive nail polish brand for Hedwig on Broadway starring Neil Patrick Harris and created a custom KOxHedwig collection for the show.

Neil Patrick Harris Hedwig nails at the Tony Awards

The collection consists of four shades, Bombshell (matte yellow), Hedwig (red glitter), Sugar (white glitter sparkle), and Midnight (navy glitter). Since up until now Knock Out has only done matte, creating our first glitter collection is very exciting. Mike Potter, the founder and creator of Knock Out, is the infamous makeup artist behind the makeup and wigs in both Hedwig the movie and on Broadway so it’s been exciting watching him work with Neil Patrick Harris and all of his support with the collection. He wore our Midnight shade at the Tony awards — and if you heard his acceptance speech, Mike got an amazing shout out. (You can see the feature on his manicure on allure.com).

Karen O Oscars Knock Out manicure

Mike is also Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs makeup artist and she debuted our Sugar shade at the Oscars this year where she was both nominated and performed during the awards. Karen O has been the face of the line since it launched in 2009.

The KOxHedwig collection is $20 and available at hedwigbroadwaygoods.com

While I love to accessorize and get creative with my outfit choices (and makeup), there is something to be said about owning really great, quality basics that can be worn on repeat to build a variety of looks and outfits or be worn alone and look effortlessly chic.

A warm coat that fits and is made well, will go a long way in your wardrobe. I bought mine last year from Marc by Marc Jacobs (#1) and it still looks brand new.  Red has been huge this season and the shade I chose is a really happy one that works with my skin tone. No matter how disheveled I am, this coat instantly brightens me up and makes me look considerably more put together.

To compliment my coat, I opted for a crisp, white beanie from D&Y (#2). What I love about this knit is that it’s not too tight like a snowboarder hat or too big like an oversized beanie and I it’s light enough that I can carry it over into Spring.  For those really bitter cold days, I turn to my Kaldi Arctic Hat from 66 North –the Icelandic brand designed to deal with extreme weather conditions. And if it’s good enough to keep Icelanders warm, then it can handle this New Yorker. And the lining is
