16 Million Children are Struggling With Hunger in the US – What are we going to do about it?

end child hunger with project sunlight

I’ve written about Unilever Project Sunlight before, it’s a wonderful initiative focused on encouraging people to create a brighter future for children – by taking small steps to live sustainably, use less and share even more. This fallthey are focusing on child hunger today are premiering an original documentary, titled Going to Bed Hungry: The Changing Face of Child Hunger, which reveals the power and the promise of a shared meal for families across America. It’s only 4 minutes long, and so eye opening and inspiring to see how these families work together:

It’s hard to digest that in America, there are 16 million children struggling with hunger – that’s the
population of Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago combined. It’s heart breaking that this issue falls so under the radar and happens in ALL neighborhoods – rural, urban and suburban – with 1 in 5 children unaware where their next meal is coming from. It often goes so undetected and one of these children could be someone you know and from your community.

To help shed light on this issue and be a part of the solution, I’m partnering with Unilever Project Sunlight to help rally people across the country to “Share A Meal to Help Turn the Tables on Child Hunger in America”. Our hope is to inspire people to join this initiative and cook for their communities, start food drives or simply raise awareness by talking about what’s happening in our country. They have an amazing tool kit on their site that’s filled with the facts and ways you can help.

Please watch the documentary above and I encourage you share it and to get involved. Learn more on how you can make a difference at projectsunlight.us
